There is nothing like living in the dorms. For better or worse, life in the dorm is an experience like none other. The dorm is the first time for most people that they are living away from home and can come and go as they please.

There are some things in living in the dorms that make life a little easier for the students. A professional cleaner is responsible for cleaning the common rooms and the bathrooms including the shower. The student does not have to do their own cooking. The dorm rooms may have a microwave but that is about it. Food can be found on campus. Many students opt for a prepaid meal plan so they do not even have to put money out of pocket for food. All the rooms contain at least two beds and desks. There is a resident advisor to make sure students are being safe and can be contacted if they need anything.

The majority of dorm rooms have little to no space for storage so additional storage is necessary. Large plastic containers can be acquired and used for storage of clothing and snacks. These containers are airtight so they are good for storing just about anything. Textbooks and other personal things can be put into them also.

Living in a dorm is a fantastic place to make new friends, because everyone has the same life situation happening to them. They are all away from their family home and typically don’t know anyone else. When you are in your room the door can be left open which shows others that you are available to visit. However if you leave then you should shut the door. When you close the door is also means you are not interested in visiting.

Boys and girls typically don’t live on the same floors with each other. They can enter the building as a guest. If having visitors over roommates must decide who they want to come and what are the time limits. Consideration is very essential in living with a roommate. No one has to be best friends but there has to be respect for the person and their personal posessions. When a roommate is studying it’s not the best time to call in a party of friends. Life in the dorm is an enormously new time for young people, a great time for becoming more independent and making the right decisions. However there is plenty of time for having fun and making good friends.
